Strijbos finished second in the opening moto behind Antonio Cairoli, with Desalle fourth. However, Desalle saw his championship hopes take a dent in the second moto.
In a wide, fast turn at the start of the race, Strijbos was forced wide across the front of the pack, clipping his teammate’s front wheel and sending Desalle down.
Desalle ended up in the middle of the track, and was clipped by two riders behind.
Initial checks at the circuit showed no fractures, but more medical checks are planned with the Belgian in a lot of pain.
Strijbos went on to finish fourth and took third overall on his RM-Z450.
He said afterwards, “A good GP for me but I expected a little bit more after the first moto. I rode pretty good and had some nice lines. I felt fast out there.
“In the second moto another rider pushed me from the outside to the inside and I had to cut across. I hit my team-mate with my back wheel and he crashed hard; I hope he is fine. I then had sand in my goggles on the first lap and that was it basically.
“I closed up to Max [Nagl] and tried to pass him but it was very difficult to see. Anyway third place means a good day.”
“Somebody just took my front wheel and after that I was down. We will have to see how I feel in the next few days.”
